Determination of chassis, model, engine, gearbox and complete set BMW scanner 1.4.0 is a tool for scanning and diagnosing vehicles. Although BMW scanner. How to install BMW Scanner 1.4.0 on Win7 32bit Posted on February 28, 2016 by sales Here is the step-by-step instruction to help out those who failed to install BMW Scanner V1.4.0 unlock (never locking) Pa-soft diagnostic software driver on Win 7 64-bit by installing BMW Scanner USB driver on Windows 7 32-bit instead.
They say no question is a stupid question except the one we don't ask, so here I go. I bought the diagnostic scanner mentioned above from Xcar360 and admittedly did not do my homework. I let what lots of men have (I call it Di.k-head momentum) where we get so fixated on something that we rush to do it and then research. Guilty as charged. I bought what I.thought. I was seeing used on the forum 'interchangeably'- that being BMW scanner 1.4.0 and PASoft.
I received the scanner 1.4.0 yesterday from Xcar360 and all I received was the plug in OBD module-like device and a cable to connect this module to USB computer port. No instructions, no software disk, no link to a site to obtain software, NADA. Just OBD plug-in and cable to connect to my computer. Being for a 2002 540, I don't need the round 20 pin connector so did not ask for one. But as I said, I just got OBD plug in deal larger than just a connector, but more like a plastic 2' x 4' 'box' and a USB cable. My questions are quite basic: Is this 1.4.0 the same as what is referred to as PASoft, or is PASoft the software that should be used with this OBD adaptor for lack of another word, or should I have gotten software with it? Is PASoft proprietary so it is 'pirated' and therefore can't be mentioned in a sale?
Should I have received software or do I need to source on my own for use with the scanner? My end goal is simply to code a LCM module I have coming with my vin# and mileage.
There are excellent PDFs online showing how to do it step by step and I was simply trying to obtain the same coding equipment that I thought I would get when I ordered 1.4.0 but now wonder if PASoft is something else? Rather simply 'fess-up' to fellow members that I did not do my homework first as it was only $30 so I plunged ahead, but now need it painfully pointed-out what I got, what I didn't get that I should have, or whatever. I'll accept the admonishments. I'm in a similar situation. I got the scanner online and got the hardware and a CD with software on it.
However, the CD might as well have been chopped liver. Completely useless and probably had a virus on it. So now I am also looking for the software. In for some advice. Did you purchase from Xcar360 as well?
At least you got a disk-albeit useless whereas I did not even get that! Curious if your seller was the same? Bill If I find resolution before you do, I will share with you and if you could do likewise, that would be great. Anyone know how big a file we are talking about or if a decent copy can be downloaded from somewhere?
Can you or someone advise where the PASoft name or part comes into play- if it does- with this scanner??? Tried a few more times to link to their site and finally was able to download software. The site says that this software must be used with Win 98 or XP. Nice that Xcar360 does not state this, but others say that the software has run on Win7 without any issues.
If you go to Xcar360 site, PA Soft download site is mentioned on first page down in the Q&A section. So, I have it downloaded and have no idea yet whether it will work on win7 or not. There are also folks stating that in order to not just READ errors but t5o do coding, pins #7 & 8 must be soldered together.
Others say there scanner can already modified so the one thing that is obvious is that at least buying from Xcar360 will leave you with a lot of unanswered questions. Where's the software?
Are pins #1 & #7 already connected in unit from Xcar360? Will software work with O/S not as old as dirt?
The fun begins and I would not put this scanner in the category of 'plug and play'. There's a couple ways to run old programs in Windows 7. If your Win 7 is NOT professional version, then this is one way to go about running old programs: If your Win 7 is the Professional version, then you can download the plugin from Microsoft to run old programs in 'XP MODE'. This is the most stable method, but you have to have the Professional version to get the plug in to work.or sometimes running old programs in Vista OS works. Good luck, and please keep posting your trials and tribulations.
There's a number of 'festers who are in the same boat as you. Not many responses to my post, but time heals all searches. So, the $29 interface 1.4 from XCar360 is the tool you need to then run the PASoft software. XCAR360 sent me a link to download the software and the first day I tried to download, the site must have been down or too busy as I could not connect. The next day, I tried again and got the software. BTW, for those looking, just long onto the main XCar360 site and the link to the software is contained on their site under 'frequently asked questions'.
Other have also said XCar360 does no longer send small disks and has nothing in their package. You must contact them or do your own searches to get PASoft. Lot of info on E46 site as well. There are a number of people who have bought the interface that say that the interface, as received, does not allow one to code-only read, and that you must open the interface and solder pins #7 & #8 together to enable interface to function fully. Others say that interfaces they received (don't know their sources) did not need these pins soldered.
I have inquiry to Xcar360 asking if their interface requires such a mod or not. Does anyone on forum have experience with specifically the XCar360 piece? If I get reply, I will post here. Google PASoft and you will find good links such as PASoft for dummies and other info on software with great tips on how to use PASoft as any.manual. on proper use does not seem to exist- I know the.real.
PASoft software use3d to be FREE for all to use, but that it know is being sold for few hundred bucks, but have not found a PDF on how to use by software creator as of yet, but some very good posts if you search using google and not a forum search necessarily. In my case, I found the exact module my car uses (Lear LCM III-B SW:2 HW4.3) from forum member. I received BMW scanner 1.4.0 and software. Went out to car armed with a exact replacement module and hopefully scanner needed to code-in my vin and miles. Just for kicks since I had reinstalled my old LCM after cleaning-up a tad of rust and found draw still there, I thought I would check one last time, confirm 300Ma draw still existed after sleep and to my chagrin, after 16min, my draw was.020Ma. I opened doors, turned on lights, started car, put back to sleep and checked again. Now, normal 20 mils after sleep.
It cured itself? Doubt it, but will ride with it as is and see.
At least I now have new spare LCM, software, and hope. For some damn reason, the draw is just plain gone and I did nothing. I believe if it happened once, it will likely come back, but I will not worry about until I go out again and get a no start and battery volts have dropped after sitting a few days. Wish I’d seen this thread a few days ago, but looks like you’ve found some answers. Soft and BMW Scanner essentially refer to the same thing. The BMW Scanner 1.4 is the hardware that you'll find for around $25, and P.A. Soft is the software that interfaces with it.
Used to be the software was freely available, but the developers took the link down and started charging for it (legitimate version is still out there, see second link). Here are some resources that might help others out in the future: Popular places to buy the BMW Scanner for around $25: My BMW Scanner came with a broken/blank/missing disk. How can I download online/verify a legitimate version?
How do I install P.A. Soft on a Windows 7 32-bit or 64-bit machine? Post #1: Post #7: PA Soft 1.4 for Dummies by nallman: BMW Diagnostic Scanner PA Soft 1.4 Settings by Kmoy2002.
^ That looks about right, although I’m using a newer version of P.A. Soft which may or may not make a difference. Yours is showing “2007”; there is a version in the second link above. The unit is powered from the OBDII port, as opposed to the USB cable, so that's all of the interface you'll see until you hook it up to the car. The screenshot you posted looks completely normal.
I have the newer software now and PASoft is up and running finally. I used it to scan my car just the other day and it saw (IIRC) all the modules on page one, about a third of the modules on page two and none from page three. I don't believe I have any of the options that are grayed-out. I was able to clear all 'old' codes and had a few that were 'red' that remained. I don't notice any issues with car performance, but I had an active error shown on A/C system, just as an example., Maybe a sensor or I might be a tad low on Freon as my A/C does not seem to work until I have driven a block or two and then it works VERY well.
Could be a low pressure fault that is real. I had a couple other odd faults active, but PAS se4ems to work just fine now on win7. I did have to open up my XCar360 interface and solder 7&8 as well as I soldered 1&2 together. I am a little disappointed that no me has answered my question as to whether PASoft can initialize your rain-sensing module like I know INPA can.
I guess people would think 'Hey, if this guy has access to INPA they why ask about PASoft', but PASoft seems to access every module including rain sensor module, but just unsure how to initialize that module or to re-calibrate the.sensitivity. if that is, in fact, a separate operation.
Had my windshield replaced with a used one with rain sensor and ever since, the intermittent does not work. Maybe I got an older windshield with old module that they say should be updated.
I have a spare of the newer module, but it came with no lens. I wonder if I can reuse the same lens and just unclip old module and try the one I bought mounted over the 'old lens'? Anyway, for the money, you can't beat PASoft. Seems far better than say Carsoft or Peake. Especially Peake which requires you to buy a second Peake just to clear SRS errors. Some say PASoft 'belongs in the trash can', but they do not say what PASoft does or doesn't do that make them dislike it so much.
I'm kind of lost on this soldering requirement. So allow me to ask you guys something I'm sure is quite obvious. 1) does the soldering job have anything to do with some connection plug to be used on the e39's connector that's underneath the hood? Aka pac-man plug? 1a If yes, then is it correct to say that the soldering job is only applicable on those e39 that has both the pack-man connector under the hood and the trapezoid plug under the steering wheel? (ie, the 1997-1998 models) 2) 540iman.did your 'grayed - out problems (peventing you from accessing key features) get resolved by doing this soldering job? 2a) what operating system are you using with your 'software newer than 2007'?
Any hiccups with this?
